#32149. Langenheim Glass View on the Minehill Rail Road, 1858. An extremely rare example of some of the earliest American glass stereo views; by Frederick Langenheim of Philadelphia. 3-1/4x6-3/4", delicately tinted, this view is titled "The Lion of the Minhill Gap." The FIRST illustration we offer is for the image itself; the SECOND illustration is for the detail of the label. Identified with a copyright date of 1858, the early Langenheim views consisted of two bound pieces of glass -- cover glass and hand-tinted image glass, with an identifying black paper mat. This example has a hairline crack running through the right image -- but it is on the interior only, and cannot be felt on the exterior of either piece of glass. The view is crisp, with railroad tracks in the foreground, a large rock and lonely pine tree, and mine buildings in the background. The tinting is light, but includes the rock and foreground, and the sky in the background. Identification is in hand-written white ink. Highly collectible, and extremely rare. $795.00

Crisp black and white glass view, 3-1/4x6-5/8". Titled "4070. Vue Generale du Wetterhorn prise du Faulhorn (Suisse). Unidentified as to photographer. Nice detail in this mountain image. Half-inch crack in cover glass at far edge of right panel, else excellent condition. $40.00

Crisp black and white glass view, 3-1/4x6-5/8". Titled "Compiegne. Facade une Eingang des Schlossen." A man poses in the foreground, jaunty in his suit and white hat. The building in the background is magnificent, and the detail of the structure captured by the photographer is amazing for the time period. Taped binding appears original. Excellent condition. $40.00
